Congratulations to Joyce Preston of Pulham Market in Norfolk who won this year’s Spring Online prize draw, winning £100 of high street vouchers for herself and £100 in vouchers for her Spring Online event holder, The Pennoyer Centre in Pulham St Mary.
Spring Online is Digital Unite’s award winning digital inclusion campaign which takes place every April and supports individuals and organisations across the UK to hold hundreds of free digital taster events for thousands of people.
Speaking about her event Joyce, aged 66 years said: “I had a new computer but didn’t even know how to turn it on and off. I wanted to learn more about computers and the internet so that if anything happened to me or my husband and we couldn’t get out and about we could still shop online and email friends and family, that sort of thing.
“The Spring Online event at the Centre really helped to get me started and they helped me set up an email account too. Since then I’ve been looking at other computer class so I can keep learning about it. Now I’ve won the vouchers too, I’m even more pleased I went along.”
For the Pennoyer Centre it was their first Spring Online event which they supported as part of their regular PC Help Club.
Organiser Kath Jones said: “We run regular PC Help sessions at the Pennoyer Centre and we decided to incorporate Spring Online into our regular session as the campaign really captures the essence of what we’re trying to do here.
"Many mature users feel intimidated by computers so we try to help them with setting up email accounts, managing photos online and surfing the web. It was great to be able to use all of the Spring Online resources to support our work and we were also lucky enough to receive a Spring Online grant which we’ve been using to promote our classes in the local area. Winning the vouchers too will really help to support the PC Club into the future and we’re looking forward to getting involved again next year.”
Spring Online 2014 takes place between 31 March – 4 April.
