HTML stands for ‘Hyper Text Markup Language’, a computer language that's used to build websites. It is essentially the ‘glue’ that holds all of the elements of a webpage together. Using a series of coded ‘tags' or 'commands' – for instance, '<p>' to start a paragraph and '</p>' to end a paragraph – a website designer is able to determine exactly how your browser will translate the programmed code and present the information to you on a webpage. HTML is essentially the ‘interpreter’ between the computer's own language and codes and the end result that you see on your screen.
